I review the Wurkkos TD04 tactical flashlight. Finally, Wurkkos has implemented a proper 1-step turbo in this tactical light!
Wurkkos provided a free sample of this flashlight for review. I was not paid to make this video. I have not omitted any negative opinions in this review.
Wurkkos TD04 Review
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• So it’s been a while since I’ve reviewed a tactical Wurkkos light. My first ever tactical style light was the Wurkkos FC12 which I still use to this day. But I’ve been eyeing this one for some time… It’s the TD04. And I think it has all the hallmarks of a tactical light, but with an affordable price tag. This light has a proper tactical mode that ensures access to turbo with a press of the tail switch. In other Wurkkos models, you would have to manually set it to turbo and rely on memory mode. 1 step access to turbo makes this light more reliable for self-defense.
• What’s in the box: the light itself, 21700 battery, lanyard, spare O-rings, instruction manual, and USB-C charging cable.
• Comparison with TD02, and other 21700 tactical flashlights. It’s considerably smaller than some of my other ones but similar size to my Nitecore MH12SE.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Good quality machining, especially at this price point. Deep cutouts for the knurling and a grippy Matt back finish too. Metal side switch and rubber tactical tail switch. The clip is made of rigid steel. Better than the ones I usually find on budget lights.
• XHP50.3 Hi with OP reflector. Larger LEDs like this can be tricky to focus but it’s balanced well in this light with no donut hole or artefacts. Crenulated aluminium bezel.
• 21700 + onboard USB-C charging.
UI – modes
• Two Uis/Groups you can select – stepped OR tactical mode. Press and hold the side switch for 3 seconds while on to switch. The tail switch needs to be on for the side switch to work.
• Stepped mode – click the side switch for ECO, LMH. Double press for turbo. Triple press for strobe. Double press to cycle through SOS/Beacon. When off, press and hold the side switch + press tail switch for ML.
• Tactical mode – when on, single click side switch for Medium-Turbo. Double-click the side switch for turbo.
Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Large, even hotspot with tons of spill to illuminate a wider area.
Considerations
• Double press feature for turbo on the stepped mode is hit and miss.
• The activation point of the mechanical switch is further down so there is a very slight delay if you activate the switch slowly. Also noticed this on the TD01.
Verdict
• For a budget 21700 tactical flashlight, this is probably one of the best options out there. If you’re new to flashlights, the TD04 comes with everything you need in the box. The one-step access to turbo makes me take this more seriously as a tactical flashlight, but ability to change the UI to a general-purpose setting with lower modes makes this light more versatile than other tactical lights with just one or two modes.
