This is the GOYOJO GRL635, and it’s my first thermal monocular with a 640 × 512 resolution sensor! I’ve been testing it for a week, and the image detail and long-range performance are seriously impressive for the price.
Designed for hunting, scouting and outdoor observation, the GRL635 is also worth considering for wildlife watching and security applications. It features a high-resolution thermal sensor, thermal sensitivity of ≤20mK, onboard video recording and a standalone design, so you don’t have to rely on your phone to view thermal images.
GOYOJO rates the detection range at up to 3km, and this is one of the few thermal optics in my collection that I’m comfortable recommending for dedicated long-range spotting.
In this review:
- GOYOJO GRL635 specifications and build quality
- 640 × 512 thermal resolution and image clarity
- Thermal sensitivity and what ≤20mK actually means
- Outdoor thermal footage and long-range performance
- GOYOJO GRL635 vs GRL335
- Field of view and the advantages of a higher-resolution sensor
- Battery life, replaceable 18650 battery and USB-C charging
- Onboard video recording and user interface
- Limitations, including the narrow field of view for general navigation
- Final verdict: is the GRL635 worth the money?
The GRL635 has some limitations. Its magnified view isn’t ideal for scanning wide areas at close range, and the companion app could use some work. But for detailed thermal imaging and long-range observation, this is one of the most impressive thermal devices I’ve tested.
If you’re deciding between the GRL635 and the more affordable GRL335, I’ll also be making a separate comparison video showing their differences in resolution, field of view and real-world thermal footage.
Thanks for watching!
