Amutorch has come up with an absolute monster of a flashlight! This is the X9, a compact powerhouse rated at an incredible 13,000 lumens, featuring the enormous new NB110 LED. I’ve been testing it to see just how much performance you can squeeze out of a single 21700-powered flashlight, including beam performance, brightness, runtime and thermal behaviour.
The X9 has a substantial aluminium body, an OP reflector and a seriously impressive LED with 16 die surfaces. But there are some compromises. Turbo gets extremely hot and steps down very quickly, the large head isn’t particularly comfortable in a jeans pocket, and you’ll need an external battery charger.
I’ll also be looking at different high-drain 21700 batteries to see how much they influence performance, and whether this little pocket rocket lives up to its impressive specifications.
Is the Amutorch X9 a ridiculous amount of flashlight for the money, or is it simply too much power in too small a package?
