The Nextorch P81 is a serious 3,700-lumen flashlight built for people who actually need a light they can rely on.

I’ve used a lot of flashlights over the years, but the P81 sits somewhere between a traditional everyday flashlight and a full-on tactical light. It’s chunky, extremely robust and packed with some interesting features – including an unusual unscrewable head that protects the charging port from water and dust while still making the light practical to recharge.

After using it for a week, I’m going to take you through the build quality, LED, reflector, beam profile, output, runtime, temperature, size comparison and all of the different modes.

I’ll also put the P81 through my usual testing, including output, colour temperature and CRI measurements, as well as some real-world beamshots.

With 3,700 lumens from a 21700-powered light, an IPX8-style water-resistant design, 2-metre drop resistance, dual switches, a stainless steel bezel and a 10-year warranty, this is clearly designed to be a light you can depend on.

It’s also surprisingly good at long-range illumination despite using an OP reflector.

There are a couple of compromises – including the fairly chunky size and a step-down from maximum output after around a minute – but Nextorch has clearly prioritised heat management and reliability over simply chasing maximum output.

So is the P81 worth the higher price compared with some of the cheaper budget flashlights?

Let’s find out.
