I review the Sofirn H05B. This is one of the best value headlamps out there and has some interesting features I’ve not seen on other headlamps.

Sofirn provided me with a sample of the H05B for this review. I was not paid to make this video and have not held back on any negative opinions of this light.

Sofirn H05B – Best Value Headlamp?

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• This is one of the best value headlamps out there! It’s perfect if you’re looking for a low cost, but decent quality headlamp. There are a couple versions of this light. I have the version with two red LEDs and three Osram P8s.
• What do you get in the box?
• Comparison with Acebeam H16, Nextorch Maxstar

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Aluminium tube design – machining is of decent quality, especially at this price point. No sharp or rough edges. The anodizing is slightly glossy black, with even coverage.
• 3X Osram P9, 2X red LED in 5x OP reflector configuration. The lens appears to be made of plastic. The head is made of aluminum and also has multiple cutouts that will help dissipate heat.
• Unscrews at both ends – one to remove the 18650 cell. The other side reveals a hidden USB-C charging port. The rubber switch is also on one end (acts as a battery indicator too).
• Simple one-piece band, with no attachment running along the top. The HD05 is light enough that it doesn’t require additional support. The strap has hi-vis embroidery. Light swivels up and down.

UI – modes
• Click once to turn on to white mode, if you click again quickly, it turns to red mode. In either mode, press and hold to cycle through steps.
• In white mode, double press to access turbo and repeat for strobe, SOS, beacon
• In red mode, double press for strobe/emergency alert mode.
• Press and hold off for ML. Repeat to turn off.
• Press once to turn it off.

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Nice flood beam – more concentrated beam in the center.

Considerations
• Too many steps for my liking – would prefer 3 modes max for each red/white setting.
• Plastic lens

Verdict
Hands down one of the best value headlamps for a beginner or enthusiast. Over 2000 lumens, with red LEDs, comes with included battery, strap, and charging cable for less than what you might pay for lunch. It doesn’t get better than this! This is a great light to add to the glovebox or keep in your bag just in case. It’s so light too!
