Convoy S8 (CSLPM1.F1): 560m Range Pocket Thrower!

Convoy S8 (CSLPM1.F1)

I reviewed the Convoy S8 with the CSLPM1.F1 – if you can handle the green beam, it throws further than anything else at this size besides an LEP light.

This one isn’t available officially but Simon is making a listing for it soon. You can check the link below for updates. You can also request for him to put one in your S8 (custom job).

Convoy S8 Video Transcript

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
β€’ So I thought the S6 was a big deal… until I got the S8! This is as ‘tactical’ as you get with Convoy. Convoy was kind enough to send me free samples of the S8 for me to review it in this video. I own a ton of lights, and I keep coming back to this 18650 form factor. It’s just so versatile. Extended runtime, increased output, and pocketable too. What more could you want? I set mine to 100% mode which turns it into a budget tactical light.
β€’ You get the light itself, clip, lanyard, and battery if you select that option.
β€’ Comparison with the S2+, S6.

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
β€’ Neat design with tactical styling – the knurling has a square pattern, grippier than the S2+/S6, just over 12cm. Some cooling fins on the head. I like the included stainless steel clip – or that we get one at all! It’s not deep carry, but you can fit a variety of other clips on it, unlike the S2+/S6.
β€’ LED – comes with a variety of options. The same reflector is found in the S6 – 2cm deep. Suited to throwy LEDs. The bezel has some cutouts – pointy around the edges but not sharp.

UI – modes
β€’ 12 mode grouping.
β€’ Full press to turn on/off, half press to switch modes.

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
β€’ CCT, CRI, Ceiling bounce test

Considerations
β€’ No onboard charging
β€’ It’s a small host. Gets hot on 100% – I don’t mind that as I will switch to a lower mode. You can also program it to remove 100% if you wish.
β€’ No momentary mode – I think that would be the cherry on the cake! I wonder if anyone else out there would like to see this included too? I can pass that on to Simon. The good news is you can set it to 100% grouping.

Verdict
I think Convoy’s nailed it with the S8 – if you want a more tactical-looking version of the S6 with the crenulated bezel, grippier knurling, cooling fins, and clip, this is the best value budget tactical light out there.
