I review the Convoy S8 with the CSLNM1.F1. This is the throwiest LED you can get that fits in a small host.

Convoy S8 (CSLNM1.F1) Review

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• If there’s one thing I can’t say no to, it’s a high candela, truly pocketable flashlight. After collecting over 100+ flashlights, this one is hands down, the highest-performing and lowest-priced pocket thrower out there. It doesn’t sacrifice quality either. The version I have comes with a green Osram W1, which may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for long-range spotting and self-defense purposes, it can’t be beaten!
• What you get in the box: lanyard, flashlight
• Compared to other Convoy lights

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Convoy does a top job at making relatively high-quality lights at such a low price point. I sometimes wonder how they turn a profit. Machining and design is nothing to be excited about, but it has a military feel to it, and is very downplayed. Anodizing is between matt black and shiny and feels slippery. You get a clip too. Single tailswitch.
• CSLNM1.F1 paired with SMO reflector. Glass lens on the front. Crenulated bezel.

UI – modes
• 12 mode groupings + ability to turn off mode memory

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Intense, small hotspot with some limited spill.

Considerations
• No on-board charging, and no battery included. You can get one from the Convoy store separately though. You’ll need an external 18650 battery charger or another 18650 light that has onboard charging.
• Limited spill beam. This is expected for a dedicated thrower light. Up close, or on walks you can lower the brightness and it’s still usable.

Verdict
• 600+ meters of throw is almost unheard of for a light with such a small bezel. The S8 with the green W1 even beats the Lumintop Antman, a similar and is rated at 590m, not to mention 5x the price. If you’re looking for the best budget-priced, mini pocket thrower, make sure you consider this light.
