ChatGPT: Some thoughts as an artist and teacher

Has anyone tried using ChatGPT? ✍️ It seems far-fetched to think that a digital version of me could be teaching watercolour painting one day. But things are accelerating so fast, it’s a real possibility. In the world of generative AI, ChatGPT was only released ONE month ago. Below are a few questions I asked it. There are a few painting questions in there that it summarized and answered fairly well… the overall breadth of knowledge is quite incredible, and it comes up with its own ‘opinions’ if you ask for it.

Responses are different each time. You can regenerate responses, and it answers the question in another way. Also allows you to drill down into the answer and ask clarifying questions on a specific point.

I read an article on how knowledge workers (programmers, physicians, pharmacists, architects, engineers, scientists, design thinkers, public accountants, lawyers, editors, academics, psychologists, and yes, even teachers?) will one day be replaced by AI.

ChatGPT can only communicate in text currently. But it got me thinking… all my personal chats with students, instructional videos, written blogs – could be used to generate a digital version of myself that might live on the internet. I’ve used a lot of these platforms for 15+ years. There’s an excess of data to create a ‘likeness’ of myself. But who should ‘own’ that version of me? Companies and platforms like Facebook? Individuals or family members associated with that individual? What do you think? 🤔
