Review

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
β€’ Having owned over 100 different flashlights, I thought I’d seen it all… but apparently not! This is the Nextorch P86. Nextorch was kind enough to send me a free sample of the P86 for me to review in this video. Its interesting design hides a special feature I’ve never seen in a flashlight before – a 120db electronic whistle! This would be useful if you’re working in crowd control, traffic management, or any type of role where you might need to get attention quickly or direct people onward, especially where there’s a lot of ambient noise. Let’s see how the P86 works and whether it’s worth considering or not.
β€’ You get the light, 18650 cell, lanyard, spare O-rings, and instruction manual included.

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
β€’ One thing I noticed about the P86 right away is the thicker walls – it’s at least twice the thickness of the P84’s walls. The head of the light is also thicker. This is good news, as it will increase the durability of this light significantly compared to the P84. The anodizing is flawless, grippy matt black. I’ve found the anodizing on Nextorch lights to be extremely durable compared to other brands. It could be due to the thickness and grade of the coating. Machining is perfect too, with no imperfections.
β€’ Tailcap is basic but well-machined – square cut threads that are extremely smooth. The two switches have been upgraded to anodized aluminum, further increasing durability. You also have those four battery indicator lights on the side.
β€’ There are 4 holes on the head of the light for the electronic whistle. It produces sound from 360 degrees. Light is still waterproof to 1m. The noise this thing produces is extremely loud. I can’t emphasize that enough. I have the urge to hold it away from me as far as possible when operating the whistle. Unscrewable head to access USB-C charging. I love this feature and wish it were on more lights. Stainless steel bezel with three ceramic glass breaking beads, second only to diamond in hardness.

UI – modes
β€’ Very simple UI. The top button is for momentary whistle mode.
β€’ Bottom button – half press for momentary high. Full press for medium. Half-press from here for L-M-H.

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
β€’ Surprisingly throwy, decent amount of spill too.

Considerations
β€’ I’d classify this as a ‘special use’ flashlight – i.e. one that you’d use if you were in a particular job e.g. security, train conductor, traffic control, law enforcement, scaring off animals/moving cattle on a farm (preferably using ear protection). The whistle could be useful to draw attention in a self-defense situation, maybe to deter someone. It’s just so loud at close range that it also affects the person using it. I scared myself a few times by accidentally activating the whistle during my review of this light. I would suggest Nextorch design the buttons, even just spacing them apart further to mitigate this issue. The whistle vents could be redesigned to face forward as well (limit the direction of the sound) to reduce the impact on the operator and increase utility as a self-defense tool.
β€’ 1600 lumens – respectable for any flashlight, but the P84 produces 3000 lumens with a larger 21700 cell.

Verdict
β€’ This is a solid performing flashlight with a twist, and the only one of its kind – I like that Nextorch has done something different, even if it’s a light that’s not designed with a larger audience in mind. I can’t fault the overall performance of this light. I also like that the medium mode has sustained output. I’ve noticed that Nextorch makes lights for specific uses. The ‘previous’ P84 model had omnidirectional signal lights that would be useful for traffic controllers, and law enforcement.
