Convoy L21B (CSLPM1.F1): Comprehensive Flashlight Review

Is this the longest-range Convoy flashlight? I believe so. Check out this video to find out more.

L21B

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality:

  • Monster thrower if you can handle the green LED. Has the longest range of all the L21B configurations. The one with this CSLPM1.F1 emitter is also the best value at 30 USD. Incredibly, it keeps up with two of my LEP flashlights. Also throws further than the Convoy L8, but not by much.
  • Aesthetically, it’s a beautiful-looking light. Elegant look and feel – the smoothness and minimalist design keeps this light-looking low-key.
  • It’s light! 212 grams without battery, 285 with battery. Was surprised as it’s only slightly heavier than my M21F.
  • Great temperature regulation – gets warm but doesn’t overheat.
  • Slightly head-heavy, the balancing point is the area above the ‘Convoy’ wording.

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector

  • Smooth, matt black finish – Type 3 anodizing. Simple knurling design.
  • 62mm bezel with a smooth reflector. Not a speck of dust inside, thankfully. The LED is seated inside a black rubber gasket that centers it perfectly. The head was a little loose when I got mine. Screwed it in a little tighter and it fine-tuned the focus perfectly. This reflector is perfect for the PM1 – really allows you to get the maximum range with lots of usable spill.
  • Simple bezel, smooth with a few rings. No anti-roll.
  • Runs off 21700 cell
  • Everything can be disassembled easily without any special tools. There’s no glue or thread lock. This is good for repairs, and enthusiasts who like to mod their lights.
  • Recessed tail switch.

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality

  • Ceiling bounce test – sustained 100% output for over 2 minutes
  • 1666m range on 100%!
  • Intense hotspot with circular spill. Can be used as a walking light on lower modes.
  • Not a light you can carry in your pocket. You’ll need a holster or bag. Convoy also sells holsters for this light.

Considerations

  • Green led – not for everyone but max range and visibility. However, there are many other white LED choices.
  • No onboard charging.

Verdict

  • The L21B with CSLPM1.F1 is a long-range flashlight with incredible performance. The light was a lot smaller than I’d expected as I thought it’d be the same size as my L8. I’d classify this as a ‘larger’ thrower still.  If you’re looking for the best value in a large long-range light, this is the one to get.
