I review the Tunenge YC8003 – a flat-style flashlight with many different functions, including a 120dB alarm!

This flashlight was provided by Tunenge as a sample for this review. I was not paid for making this video, nor have I held back on any negative opinions.

Tunenge YC8003 Review

General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
• This is a request from one of my subscribers – I wasn’t a huge fan of these flat style flashlights, but I’m starting to come around as of late, as they can be fantastic all-rounder EDC lights. Especially for people who don’t like carrying a typical 18650 tube flashlight.
• What you get in the box: USB-C cable.
• Comparison with Arkfield Pro.

Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
• Quality is on par with other flat-style flashlights in this price range. I like that the anodizing is matt black and a little grippy, definitely not slippery. Four buttons – three on the front – for UV, Spotlight, and flood light. On the side of the head is a button for the 120dB buzzer. It’s deafening and headache-inducing. The ‘openings’ of the buzzer are directed in a 180-degree fashion, so it would sound louder to someone you were pointing it towards. Given you hold it in the right direction. Flood light has a plastic diffuser and also has a battery indicator at the top. Strong clip and magnet in the base.
• USB-C onboard charging with 1000mAh battery.
• On the head – Samsung LH351D, and SST-08-UV – genuine 365nm which is superior to the standard 395nm – produces too much visible light.

UI – modes
• Press and hold each mode button to enter lighting mode. Under UV, press and hold for on. Press once for off (standby) or hold for off. General lighting mode – press and hold for on. Single press to cycle modes. Flood / Colour mode – press and hold for on – press once to cycle yellow, white, red, red flashing, UV.
• Buzzer – press and hold for 0.5 seconds to enter standby mode. Then press and hold the button to sound the buzzer. You can also select two other buzzer modes in the UI which allows you to activate the buzzer without being in standby mode.
• You can activate all three lights at the same time – not sure why you’d want to.

Performance – total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
• Ceiling bounce test, CRI, CCT
• Spot mode has decent throw for a small TIR light and lots of flood on higher modes. I like the warm flood light mode.

Considerations
• Not a fan of SOS/strobe mode being included in the main lighting mode. They would be better separated out and activated with a triple press. It would also be nice to have some lower modes on the flood mode, rather than full power all the time. Secondary UV flood mode is redundant.
• Step down too conservative.
• Only has a 1000mAh non-replaceable battery, but still a similar size to my other flat-style flashlights.

Verdict
The YC8003 is a competitively priced newcomer to the flat-style flashlight genre and comes with various features including the whistle and 365nm UV mode – both of which are rare in most flashlights. I wish this light had a larger battery but if you’re not planning on taking it on longer trips, you should be fine, especially if you use the lower modes. It’d make a nice gift for someone who wants an easy-to-use, all-in-one EDC flashlight.
